Where will it end?

To paraphase the sentiments of the bikesnobnyc here, I dont buy the CM nor click on any CM weblinks for the same reason that I dont go rummaging around in the toilet bowl after Ive been, Simply because I know its ***, that it will always be *** and that no matter how hard I look at it Im not going to be able to change the fact that it is ***.

I would suggest that clicking on or linking the CM links in th first place is a bad idea, it only serves to push it further up google rangings and higher on the CM most viewed list. Best copy and paste it here if you must, but Id be telling anyone I could not to legitimise it by got to the site. I think there is even a good arguement not to even use the online comment. Its simply there to incite argument, if there is noone to get inflamed about the argument and bait the negative view point, in all likelyhood they wont bother posting and we can hope that the couriermail will go back to reporting on the love life of Glenn McGarth.

Off topic, is it only me that has an automatically negative view of people when I see them buying the courier-mail? If Im in a newsagents and see them reach for the CM rather than the Australian. In my mind I cant help assuming that there is a good chance that they're fairly close minded, less than accepting people 'and not particularly connected with the world outside of Brisbane? A strong suggestion of boganism even.

Mad_matt, this is a cycling forum, the subject of the thread is cycing related so there is no need to justify it here. have you seen how many pages the commuting thread is, this story directly affects many members here and is possibly a direct cause of behaviour like this:

good points NR, keep their hit rate and plagiarise their material by copying it here. even better let them file a law suit about the breach of copyright and have them exposed for all the negative unbalanced crap they publish.

and I cannot believe that Glenn McGrath made the front page with his girlfriend, WTF is that all about.

as an aside recently the business I work for wanted to cut costs and thought that only getting one paper per day would be a start. would you believe that they wanted to cut the Australian Financial Review over the CM and we are a financial services company. I made my views known in no uncertain terms and the AFR was kept along with the kitty litter liner.

Where will it end?

Not sure about the article being retaliatory probably just the theme for Feb..

Another quality article (not) and only 5 comments posted up on their site?? Normally there would far more comments. .

'Growing numbers of cyclists on congested roads have been blamed for increasing friction with motorists.' - Good bit of investigative journalism there. I would of thought the whole commute issue was a bit more complex than that...

Perhaps the journo should ride to work and get another perspective and maybe put together a better article

They may then realise that some drivers also break the law and have little disregard for cyclists or other drivers. Last week while commuting to work, it felt like it was 'squash a bike week' after 1 road rage incident on Bennett's RD and 2 near misses at Kangaroo Point.

End of my rant. Going to play with my box of goodies from CRC......

Bike week is coming up, that's the reason for the article, they're warming up for a vitriolic spew of anti cycling sentiment.

Just out of curiosity does BQ do any form of advertising with CM? I think that it is waste of money personally. Reminds me of a situation last year when an article and blog was done by The Age in Melbourne (a Fairfax paper) on financial planning which received a lot of negative commentary. The Financial Planning Association complained and the article was not withdrawn and allowed to continue. Roll forward a month and a similar article written about the real estate industry and the agents. Within hours the online story and all the comments was withdrawn with no explanation. Seems the REIV spoke to the editor and told them that all the REIV members would be withdrawing their advertising for real estate if the article was not withdrawn, this would have had a significant bottom line impact. The trouble with cycling is that it is not financially powerful enough to force change even if that power is often misused and abused by other groups, cyclists have nothing.

... It's a great filler piece ...

Technically it would be, becuase it's such a crap article. But then you could say the same thing for the vast majority of CM.

The CM is delivered to our house.

THIS ARTICLE WAS ON THE FRONT PAGE!

How can they justify this. Not only is it not news, it's a complete biased pile of faeces.

X,

You are holding on too tight....might lead to a bit of arm pump, possibly of only one arm though.

As long as you do the right thing and I do the right thing we are well on our way to a better world and an increased acceptance of cyclists as legitimate road users.

If you see people doing the wrong thing, use your jedi bike skills, chase them and have the balls to have a crack at them...sitting at home with your 11372 posts on an internet forum does not have the same effect.

Ah I didn't buy the paper all I saw was it on the site thanks for letting me know.

IMO I suppose it all goes back to why news paper exist. It is now to sell advertising and promote the ideals of those in charge of the papers. Newspapers only want to sell more papers it's generally not of consequence how they do that controversy brings more attention to them. So if putting these blatant rage pieces on sells paper then that's what they will do. Every year just before bike week they start this campaign as it's topical and gets a reaction.

No how about trying some real journalism work, maybe research a balanced and informed article about say ummm cycling on the roads.

Maybe someone should send these to her boss.

The article states that cyclist are breaking the 60 k/hr speed limit on Mt Coot-Tha.

Its actually 50 k/hr speed limit.

Wonder how many other facts and figures she fabricated?

That last big, long hill down to the Botanical Gardens is 60 k/hr. And there's often a speed camera at the bottom of it.
