Madness... if a car came the other way and swerved to avoid this nutter, the 2nd car could have killed you too.

Have you seen "LOANS" again?

OK so here's the situation, you're riding along Herston Road, you've assessed the situation, if you move over to the right of the lane indicating your right turn with your arm fully extended while the road has no cars in the immediate vicinity, but you can see them approaching from about 200metres back, the left side of the road is completely empty so cars can pass you without upsetting their "hard earned" momentum and the following happens:

what was going through this guys head? he eventually stopped in a parking drop off/pick up area 300metres up the road.

Just another impatient tosser, dont ride around Chapel Hill day or night if you dont stuff like that, happens all the time even when i've got the bike trailer in tow and in the bike lane.

Getting good at letting the Airzound off and unclipping the right boot to put into the side panels. 2 out of 4 success rate so far this year.

I reckon every side street on a cycle lane road should have a stop sign.

Might have saved that poor bugger on Lytton rd this week.

condolences to the family.

This happend on a stretch of road that I both drive and ride daily. It even has a cycling lane. Very sad.

My work colleague lives down here. Apparantly police were there yesterday taking pictures of the give way signs from a number of different angles. Possibly a court case will ensue. Doesn't change the fact that one person is dead and another now has to live with that tho! Very sad these things have to happen

maybe, not sure its worth the effort after my last head butting experience. I can see the response, was anyone injured? was any property damaged? what do you want us to do about it? doesn't matter that the driver was driving dangerously , placing my and another drivers life in jeopardy.

Why not keep sending them to the poster girl of senior police doing the right things on the road and let them drown in their own hypocrisy.

It is actually much harder for them to ignore a written complaint that a verbal one because of the audit trail.

Also more specifically the driver was not only generally driving negligently in causing the oncoming traffic to have to avoid them but you are specifically not allowed to overtake a vehicle signalling a right turn.

I know I sound apathetic about it, but the truth is I will complain about it, I will butt heads with the QPS yet again and I will write in and complain when nothing is done.

Reported the incident to Matt Lowe at Charlotte St station, he took a statement from me, didn't view the footage there an then, but said that he would view it and request advice from Traffic Branch. Could just be a ticket or maybe even a summons depending on the what they deem is the severity of the actions of the driver. Either way the driver will get a call and be talked too and next time he'll hopefully think abotu his actions.

Hmm.. playing devils advocate - the driveway was a while away, and why just drift across the lane with a car coming? Why not wait, let it pass then turn?

there were cars, plural, approaching, leave the move too late and your battling the cars to cross the lane to turn right, or move across early clearly indicating your intentions and give them plenty of room and time to pass on the left. sometimes when I approach that driveway I go late as I know the cars (if there are any) will have passed me in plenty of time, other times I go early because trying to merge into a moving line of cars is just dangerous. either way, I am in the lane and even if I was still in the left side of the lane away from parked cars to avoid getting doored, the driver would still have to go on the wrong side of the road into oncoming traffic to pass me. he did something stupid, there is no need to have to pass any vehicle that way. if I was in a car would he have gone past on my left or right? I think we know the answer to that one. his ego could not let him sit behind a cyclist and pass safely on the left. there was some education to be done and he tried to educate me that might is right. sorry but that just doesn't sit with me.

I should add there is a street ont he left where this occurred and often vehicales are turning into that street so the chances of a left hook are also high if you are stay left for too long.

Still didnt look like a very courteous manouvre to me. Just lazily merging over in front of traffic at 1/3rd the speed limit isnt education, its just arrogance. Its going to *** the driver off, and he'll take it out on the next rider - hopefully not someone you know or care about.

Not justifying the drivers evasive manouvre at all, but fighting ignorant arrogance with self-righteous arrogance seems pointless to me, if not counter-productive.

each to their own opinion I guess. he had a choice, use his brakes, or use the accelerator, pass on the left safely or pass on the right dangerously. I made a judgement of where I should be on the road given his location (far away), speed (60km/h zone) and the environment ie location of stationary vehicles and where I thought I would be visible, safe and not be in danger. this is no different to a driver who pulls out in front of a cyclist who misjudges the cyclists speed, he didn't just make a mistake with me, he also consciously chose to drive into oncoming traffic and take on another motor vehicle. in the rear camera you can see the car behind him stop and pause and watch the events unfold as he was obviously expecting a head on collision to occur.

hindsight is 20/20, we can all look and pontificate about how it should have been done, but that's a perfect world and we do not live in a perfect world.

Where will it end?

I received a phone call at home tonight from Stafford Police re the blue honda incident. they are viewing it a little differently to the city and will be requesting the presence of the company of the driver for a please explain session. when asked what outcome I was seeking my simple reply was "if this had happened in front of the police as witnesses, what would you do?", I also said I was happy to give evidence in court if required which is always the cruncher, you'll get nowhere if you say no.

re the black mazda, I've had a bit of a think about it and I'll play the what if game. what if I did do something incorrect or wrong? the police have the video, I have nothing to hide, they will decide if they can take action against me and I'll cop it sweet after all I am giving them the evidence and they can choose to do with it whatever they feel is necessary to carry out justice. BUT and this is a big BUT, if I did do something wrong, are we then saying that it is OK for a driver to take the matter into their own hands and "educate" the cyclist by obviously and dangerously breaking the law, endangering the cylist and their own life and causing a near head on collision with another motor vehicle? if the answer to that is Yes, then OK, I'll withdraw my complaint immediately.

re the black mazda.....

You were there, none of us were. I think it is good that Ky (or anyone else) has a different opinion to provide to this forum as input.

Might any one of us do things differently given a second go, maybe. One thing seems certain though, the driver was having a bit of brain f@rt.

Also, 8 seconds of video doesnt really do any justice either, if you had the rear cam showing how far the car was maybe it would clear it up a bit more ?
