Funny comment here:

@pecheur23 - if you're constantly getting abuse and the finger from cyclists, perhaps you should look at the way you're driving instead of blaming the cyclists. You're probably driving like an ass.

Where will it end?

Just had a call re the Blue Honda Driver from Stafford police. The driver was brought in for a formal recorded interview lasting 45 minutes. He was shown the video plus the additional video I supplied showing the prior 2 minutes of riding to refute his claim of me weaving all over the place. He still claimed that he was braking because of traffic and that he swerved to the right to give me room to move down the left side of his car. He was very concerned that the police were taking the matter so seriously, to which I replied that any attempt on my life (or any other cyclist) is serious to me. The guy is now absolutely scared out of his wits that I will take the matter further and ask for charges to be laid. That has satisfied me. He is now on record and knows it, so he is aware that any behaviour like this in the future can result in not only charges being laid, but this behaviour shows a pattern that is not acceptable. That is the end of the matter for me.

That is a fantastic result X. Good to think that if there is pretty much irrefutable evidence the police will do the correct thing and follow up. It's just a matter of having that proof... time to investigate cameras

Good on you X. Unfortunately its not an ideal way to have him learn his lesson, but at least one more driver will think twice and perhaps tell his buddies. If you hadn't taken action then I have no doubt the satisfaction he gained would have led him to do it again.

May I suggest a positive letter to the police regarding their handling of the matter? People like having smoke blown up their arse - leaves a good taste in their mouth when they have to deal with the next cyclist.

Yep the RodGrime thread also suggested a follow up thank you letter which I will do.

Mudeye, go over to RoadGrime, there is a thread there I started about the cameras as a result of some off topic discussion in another thread. Some of the members have found the same cameras as mine for as little as $20-$40. That's great value when you think about it. Best part is you can use them off road as well. Oneof the other plans I have is to video record the trails of BSF as I ride them (probaly on a BSAC), front and rear, with hopefully riders front and rear for added emphasis.

Nice one Ox!

I want more videos of your commute. They amuse me, watching stupidity on camera is awesome.

Sounds like nothing happened then. if he wasn't issed a TIN (traffic infringement ntoice) or wasn't issued an NTA (notice to appear) then nothing happened.

sounds like you may be the one receiving the smoke.

I dunno Shaff, if you get called into a police station to be sat down and interviewed for a period of time and asked to be shown just cause for a clear case of poor driving... I wouldn't say 'nothing happened'.

.. and just because smoke is blowing, doesn't mean you have to rub your cheeks in it.

i am still not convinced. However i think the helmet camera is an excellent idea and this type of evidence is very easily accepted by the courts and very hard to dispute. There may be more to the story about the outcome. I wathced a video on here last year where Ky was run out of his lane a few times and the quality was excellent. Did X receive a police reference number like a traffic crash # or an occurrence number?

The job of the police investigating incidents involving traffic offences and related incidents would be made a lot easier if they were all supplied with video of the incident.

I reckon if I was hauled in before the police and 'interrogated' I would pretty mindful of what I did wrong and I reckon I would change my ways. Then again, I have a conscience and wouldn't knowingly put myself in that situation.

Just as an aside -

I think it was in this thread - you may remember a few weeks ago there was the Courier Mail article that talked about the survey of RACQ members. As an RACQ member I sent the RACQ an e-mail requesting some info about the survey and expressing concern about the 'us and them' portrayal in the article.

After some delay I got a reasonable response from the RACQ. The last line of the response I liked particularly and I felt was reflective of the overall sensible response I recieved - "The support of motorists, cyclists and others of goodwill and commonsense would be crucial to the success of any activity undertaken to address the problem"

My opinion, and experience, is that most cyclists and most drivers do the right thing. (Occassionally a good rider or a good driver makes a mistake - such is life). There is however a small element of both cyclists and drivers who intentionally do the wrong thing - these are the ones we should be after - not every rider and not every cyclist.

I have a plan of what to do next but will see if I can pull it off before making a goose of myself and telling you all.

Did you manage to get any data or results from the survey from RACQ?

Ox that is a brilliant result, good on you for making the effort and pushing the issue, and good on the police for actually taking it seriously!

I applaud you sir! Smile

Hhe will make up a story where you were in the wrong and somehow you set him up for this, to tell all his friends making them feel angry at cyclists in general.

Realistically how many people have the guts and humility to own up and admit they were wrong to friends?

For that reason having these incidents come out in the media, usually after going to court is the best chance for these things to get aired relatively unbiased.

what was going through this guys head? he eventually stopped in a parking drop off/pick up area 300metres up the road.

This is 1st time I've been bothered to look at this thread for various reasons, not least of which is that it is far too frustrating.

I watched this vid, and this vid only:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GJmD1QIZdEU&feature=player_embedded

WTF!

Well marked bike lane on the left.. A blue car on the left is giving way. All good. Then the rider moves to the right away from the clear bike lane into the middle of the road. Why? Rider must be drunk? The drivers in the blue car giving way, the black car coming up from behind and the oncoming ute have all watched the nutso cyclist drift gently out into the middle of the road for no obvious reason. They are all expecting the rider to move back left when they gain control of their senses and the mist clears. Looks the black car was committed to come past because they were going relatively fast but the rider drift just kept happening. The white car was obviously watching it all and had seen enough stupidity to move left and avoid the carnage. Even more bizarre is that it looks as if there is another cyclist up the road on the right hand side of the lane as well. Seriously crazy incident and would not have happened if the rider stayed locked in the bike lane.

As far as I'm concerned there is only one rule on the bike:

GIVE WAY TO E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G.
