Hope you are feeling ok Ky and the bike has held up.

two cents - many Merc drivers wouldn't give 2 hoots about a few scratches, they just get it fixed.

Better off to stick the boot into the driver Bravo

did i say that?

happy friday all

All round these days not many people have respect for anyone full stop. You don't have to be on a bike to see the ignorance of quite a few people out there. I find alot of drivers just cant drive. I dont know where their thought patterns are while theyre behind that wheel, but its certainly not about whats happening around them. Then it gets worse when your on that bike. They either want to beat you, hit you, or run you off the road, as they swallow that mac burger. I have to admit though i do get queezy in the stomach when i drive passed a big group of saturday morning road riders and i know people are annoyed with them, which makes it dangerous for all of us

"If cyclists complied with the road rules 100 per cent of the time, we would see a dramatic reduction in hospitalisations and injuries," Supt Campbell said.

Again it seems that it is nobody's fault but our own!

I would like to see of the 8-10 cyclist deaths in the past year, how many were deemed to be the cyclist in the wrong.

Saw that and thought, where is the statistics to back that up. I doubt he could prove that stament if pushed on it.

Sick to death hearing aout how paying rego is what builds roads. This is a myth that needs to be debunked.

My personal favourite comment on the story:

"Hay Brisbane. Just do what i do. I'm walking along North Quay there and if a bike rider gets in my way. I push him/her off thier bike. simple. It's a footpath and the cops walk that strech all day going to court or getting something to eat. The pick on the homeless to move along but never book these asshole bike rides screaming down the footpath.

The stupid thing here is that he claims "If cyclists complied with the road rules 100 per cent of the time, we would see a dramatic reduction in hospitalisations and injuries,", whereas at the bottom of the article it states:

"Suzanne Daniel, 54, of Mareeba was killed in April when a driver, 85, struck her bicycle on the Kennedy Highway and failed to stop. Also in April, a 10-year-old boy was killed when his bicycle and a car collided west of Bundaberg and in February, Ian Gilmore, 38, was killed when struck by a truck on Nudgee Rd."

So how is it the cyclists that need the refresher about road rules? In the first case, a woman was struck by an 85 year old driver, who then failed to stop. Did he even see the cyclist or hear the thud as he hit her? The 2nd example is a 10 year old, I don't know much luck anyone would have trying to explain all the road rules to a 10 year old and expect them to stick to them 100% of the time, surely a 10 year old is too young to ride on the road anyway? And the 3rd example, again a cyclist was struck by a truck, which to me implies the truck was at fault.

If we did pay rego what would they whinge about then?? they would want us to have blinkers and headlights, even if we did pay were still going to slow there drive to work down by 5sec, plus how are they going tto draw a line on who has to pay and who doesn't?? would kids riding around out the front of there house have to pay, what if you ride 200metres to check the surf, are you going to get booked for riding a unrego'd vechile? I think better education for car drivers and higher fines for the bike riders that are wrecking it for the rest of us

I propose we conduct a survey. you have to wear a jersey /jacket that reads on the back "Honk if you think cyclists deserve a better go" (or something similar). Survery takers simply have to count how many respondents honk at them on the commute. We will assume that cars that drive by without acknowledging you did not want to take part and will be removed from the sample. using my powers of statistical analysis I forecast a favourable 100% response rate to the question. then we just have to find a media outlet that is dodgy is happy with the data collection method (ACA and TT come to mind) and publish the data.

I gave up caring what Johnny Bogan thinks about me riding on the road. I just do it.

And I don't read the courier mail either. In the words of the uniballer: SSDD.

We are also in the process of producing a television commercial which will highlight the emotional impact on the driver and their family if they make contact with a cyclist while driving. This commercial will be launched towards the end of the year with the support of Channel Ten, Foxtel and Val Morgan Cinema Advertising.

How can you help:
• Tell your friends, motorists and cyclists about the campaign to spread the word about leaving an extra metre for cyclists.
• Join up for Amy’s Rides and wear the jersey to help promote the message.
• The AGF needs to raise funds for the production of the commercial and we are calling on all Australian road users to help us. All donations are tax deductible and will be listed on our site

Tempest I think the Courier Mail is very useful, it fits in the kitty litter tray perfectly before being covered in kitty litter. the cat then uses it for it best purpose, dumping her waste on top of it. I don't pay for it either, I just take the left over copy from work.

Ban motor vehicles - that will fix the problem. While we're at it - ban suitcases on wheels as well - if you can't carry it don't take it.

It's not even good enough to wrap fish in any more. It was ok for this when it was a broadsheet ...
