2 browns and a red belly black at castle

Hi e veryone who rides castle. In the last 3 days ive seen 3 huge snake up the top. This morning was a 5ft red belly black just where they have cleared part of old squirrel (thats what we use to call it years ago)once over that old bridge and you get to thenew man made clearing he was just sitting there sunning himself and the browns were over the other side of the ramp up the top. There always seems to be travel marks from them on the fire roads, but they seem to be out and about lately, so just be aware. cheers

I ran over a small brown snake at dasiy hill last weekend. Guess he must have been ok as it wasn't there when I turned around.

yeah you run em over and they usually get as much of shock as you do,and just want to get out of there.trouble is were' coming into that time of year when the browns are pretty fiesty and more likely

to have a go at you.i got chased by a big brown down near spider alley at castlehill a couple of

years ago,all i did was ride past him.I heard a rider got bit up at tamborine the other week,i guess

you just have to be unlucky.

Hey guys. Another HUGE brown down next to where the old car used to be this morn. He was sunning himself just as you enter the single track. Very very big. He was reared up,so not happy

Not sure about the other guys as I'm in brissy but I believe they are active in the warmer part of the day. There are quite a few nocturnal snakes too but they are usually less aggressive - I have one in the workshop that sleeps in various boxes only to come out at night. Scares the c?+&p out of me when I least expect it.

As for times its always morning i see them. Its their pattern to be out and about sunning themselves then, especially in the cool mornings. Younger snakes i believe are more out and about at night. Ive had a few young browns around the house at night, and a few nape snakes which are cute, they are out at night as they live on gheckos.I didnt see any this morning when i was up there. I think since the clearing of the hill tho, most who lived in the thick part of it are now vulnerable as all the clearing is through where the dense spots were, we see them more now because there is less thickness.

A while ago I was out riding with Mad Mike up near Queen Mary Falls, we were flying down a long rocky section under the canopy of trees. When I got to the bottom Mike said to me "did you see the black snake you ran over" I said "nope" Mike said it was up looking for something to bite by the time he got to it so he had to bunny hop over it.

a nape snake sort of looks colouring of a brown with a black head with a red band around its neck. they are i spose like any snake capable of biting, but arent going to lay you on a slab.i have a reptile licence, but anything other than a python freaks me out.

Me too. I kind of like snakes, from about 10m away...the thing I don't like is the way some of them don't just run away, at least before they bite you.

i meant to say skinks before is what nape snake eat, not gheckos. Yeh yesterday was a bit close for me. I was running my 2 dogs with me when they ran passed the huge brown. My male dog stopped and sort of went towards it, and i screamed at him cause it had reared up at him. He stopped but my pup walked up to it. no joke it was nose to nose with this thing. I just about had a heart attack as it would of killed her being so young. I ran towards it and it couldnt deal with everything so it took off. The other half is saying to me what were you thinking., but i couldnt let the pup get bitten. The only thing that saved her it was still half asleep and it wasnt in the position to strike.
