2 browns and a red belly black at castle

i was there today muddy and with the 34 degree days down here lately they are everywhere, on sunday i counted 17 snakes at awaba on the xc loop alone, more then riders

Note to self: cross awaba XC loop off my to-do list.

Hopefully a direct correlation. More snakes less riders. It sounds like I could setup an antievene shop in the carpark. Reckon I could charge pretty well if a rider emerges with fang-holes.

Victim: Staggering out of the park. I've been bitting by a freakin snake.

Me: How fortunate then that I have a wide selection of the finest antivenene here.

Victim: Just hit me with what it takes.

Me: That'll be $175,000 sir.

Victim: Pretty steep pricing. But don't have much choice. Where do I sign?

I'd also be very likely to invest a good proportion of my hard-earned takings into "snake welfare and conservation" in the area.

Ok heres one for you.........How many of us ride with a pressure bandage in our camelback. I know my other 1/2 has one in his, but sometimes im not riding with him, so im guilty of a no. It is one of the most important items we can have in snake season. Can be what gets you back to the car conscious, if where in the middle of nowhere.

I figure that if you get bitten by a really bad-arse snake, the effort that it takes to get back to your car from the middle of no where will finish you off. You can always use something to wrap a wound up with - I have my pump wrapped in a long thin piece of rag stuffed in my camel pack. Or you could use a shirt or something. That's why I usually ride with Strongy I can send him back to the vehicles and there is enough material from one of his shirts the bandage an entire battalion! Big hug

good advice, best thing you can do if bitten by a snake is apply a pressure bandage ,send your

mate off to get help and then just lie down and try not to move too much.

Gap Creek was the scene for my run in with a red belly black today. Riding up Rocket Frog I narrowly missed the snake and as i went passed it it decided to lunge for me and only narrowly missed my ankle. I then only hoped i wouldn't flick it up with my rear wheel and onto my back. Thankfully I didn't. I can safely say i have never ridden so fast up the track away from the snake. So just a quick message to everyone riding gap creek over the next few weeks to keep an eye out for these snakes.

had another siting of a snake at castle, this time it was a brown tree snake cruising over the fire trail near the dam on the cunningham highway side. only around a meter long but it had awesome colouring and was quite placid as it was at dusk as a few have seen we start riding around 5pm-ish.

seen 2 this year in the last few months as its warmed up so what will the summer bring!

The rain has kept them a bit quiet, we've had a few in the yard at home..I havent seen any up there of a morning yet, but we make that much vibration with my pck of dogs running like maniacs, that would make anything run away.January if their have mating timing hasnt been interrupted , you will see activity i spose due to feeding. I was surprised how dry it was on wednesday morning after all that rain, that place drains like do otherSmile

yeah we went up on wednesday and thursday arvo after missing out on a few days from rain and apart from around the log blocking the entrance near the railway crossing there isnt to many boggy bits. lots of frogs and toads all over the shop so it doesnt surprise me seeing the snakes.
