2010 ay-up dusk til dawn

For me the weekend summed up what MTBing is all about. Great people all out there to do the best they can and have fun while they're doing it. The ability of the gun riders to remain focused fast and so polite while they are passing me at Warp Speed 9 never ceases to amaze. Thanks to my team-mates, friends, family, and all the organisers and volunteers for making it all possible. And give me the cold instead of rain any day...

2010 ay-up dusk til dawn

I had a small thermometer on my tent, and at 11pm it said 0 degrees, and when I pulled the pin at 1am it said -2. Was hard to pick what to wear - too little and you froze, too much and you sweat to death, then froze on the downhills. Had some logistical probs at the tent, and had to stop for a few mins a few laps in a row and it just killed me. Was hard to get warm again, kept cramping so sooked out at 1am with my cranky face on.

Awesome course. It sure ate some newbies up on the first lap. Lots of people changing tubes all night. I got comfy after a few laps, and stopped getting passed so much, and started actually passing some people (much to everyones suprise, especially mine). Bike ran flawlessly except for a stick getting caught up in the chain on the switchbacks and dropping it on me - otherwise, it just went, and went smooth and sharp all night. Im really in love with this bike - its still taking some learning and getting used to, but my god it makes endurance riding so much smoother and comfier. And it just flows so smoothly on the descents. I actually FELT fast. Made up for me draggin my fat ass up the climbs Smile

I was in 10th when I pulled out at 1am - makes me wonder if everything had gone to plan, how it would have ended up!

Love watching Matt Dog race. Awesome ambassador for AyUp and the sport in general. Always with wise and encouraging words and a good laugh. Gutterball! FTR lads got a bit pushy early in the morning, and I watched one guy take a novice girl out on a downhill section and just keep going. She wasnt injured, but was pretty shaken up.

And big thanks to the girls up on the hill cheering us on. Always made me smile going through there.

Top job to everyone who rode, for however long Smile

Does anyone have any idea when the full results will be posted? Nothing showing on the TWP website yet.

We still have the intra-team banter about the fastest lap, most consistent lap times and quickest ET to be settled! There's a bottle of fizzy up for grabs....!!

My bike computer said it got down to 4 degrees around 5 oclock. The cold tempaurature was definately a motivation not to stop for to long between laps as it took to long to warm back up.

Not sure how the team riders would have managed warming up each swap.

It was my second night race (did the Lunar-c earlier in the year). I still had a good time despite the cold. It was bad timing for my team, who had all been away with work and had been unable to train leading up to the race, so were spent by 2 or 3am.

I did a couple of laps back to back at 3.30 - 4.30am and could feel my calves start to tighten, with cramps not far away, so I threw in the towel as well. I take my hat off to the solo guys. I consider myself pretty fit, but there's no way I could push out 12 hours solo, let alone 24. The 3+3 at OHV was tough enough!

It was hard leaving the sleeping bag each time it came to my lap sleepy

Well done the the winners and place getters. It was definately to cold to stop riding. I look forward to next years already with warmer weather.
