Noosa Triple 000 12 Hour

Hey is anyone considering entering this event on 17 April for the Royal Children's hospital cancer ward. If you are give it a go at only $60 for entry. I have heard that if you haven't got a team they are taking names and will put you in a team. See the events calendar for contacts for the event. Free camping with this one as well. Should be a great event and now it has been opened up to the public it will be a great chance to show support for the Police, Ambos and Firey's trying to raise some money for kids in a terrible situation.

See the MTB Calendar for April and yes solo or teams. of 2,3,4 or 6. I chekced and it is not seperated by age limits it is just teams made up of anyone and tems can be mixed or not. Kids may need permission and wavers etc though and no solo for them. Best check before registering them.

I was going to try and drum up some kids teams (I'm a high school teacher)... but not at those prices. Not very affordable for kids wanting a first time go at a low key event. I'll probably still enter myself but it's hard to sell it to kids and their parents.

MTB MUZ I don't know about the price being too expensive. $60 a person is just about the cheapest event of its kind I have been able to find. I wish the rest were as cheap. I get a bit ancy when they are up over $100. But as all the money is going to help kids with cancer rather than a promotors pockets it is a bargin. Just a thought. How about some the other school students sponsoring the kids who want to ride with a plain clothes dress day for $1 a student or a lunch time sausage sizzle. Just a thought if they really want to have a go.

I agree that it is a reasonable price to pay... and I will happily pay that money for an enjoyable day and to help a worthy cause. The problem comes with parents of kids, where money is tight, and there isn't a prior knowledge of the "normal" and "expected" costs of events like this.

Most schools only allow a limited number of charity raising days per year (non-uniform days etc...), so probably not enough notice for this one. I will still make the effort to promote the event, but I think a school kids category where you could enter a 4 member team for a $100 or so would have helped. The charity is still getting money, mountain biking gets some more debutantes, and the kids have a great day.

I have knee surgery coming up at the start of March, so it'll be a race to be fit enough to ride. If I can't ride, I might offer my time as a volunteer to help out. Looking forward to an enjoyable day and helping a great cause.

Cheers

MTB Muz, maybe you should contact the promoters and ask for a special deal. It would make more sense than complaining that they haven't made thier pricing with you and highschool kids in mind. 100 for a team of 4 would be ridicualously( bad spelling, I know) cheap.

The cause is great, and I will try to make it. I am more unhappy with them choosing a Saturday for a race when alot of people like myself work retail, and getting saturdays off is pretty damn hard.

I don't really expect that sort of service from this event and please don't think I'm complaining about this particular event. I guess in general I just feel the sport has become a very expensive sport. I run a small triathlon group at school (along with another teacher), and I get real dissappointed when the kids I put hours of work and time into just can't afford to do more than 1 or maybe 2 races a year (some can't even do that). I understand there are ever increasing costs with putting on an event today, and that in this case the money is going to a great cause.

I might follow your advise and contact them to see if we can work a deal. Perhaps some of the kids can volunteer to help with marshalling and working etc.. on the day to offset the costs.

Cheers

Noosa Triple 000 12 Hour

G/'day, Mtb_muz.

Mate, try with the kids and see. I'm a high school teacher too and we managed to get a team of 6 to the insomnia 24h and they didn't even have bikes. The local bike shop helped out with bike service, local riders like myself helped the kids train and organise bikes to loan or fix up their existing ones ... At the end of the day, they're asked for money all the time at schools and $60 is $60 but in comparrison to some of the things that the kids don't get half as much out of, it's a bargain! Sell it well, make it a big event (ie. including training etc) that stretches the value over a time period as well and I think you'd do OK.

Everyone who has been waiting for this event to open. I just went to www.workingwonders.com.au and the registration portal is up and running. Entry is indeed only $60 per person and teams have been listed as male and mixed in each category. I had a look the website on working wonders and saw some photos of two guys walking up a massive hill. I emailed the point of contact and was assured that the photo was not of the event but just a quick grab by the charity to fill space and create interest. Photos of the actual course will replace them ASAP. Scott Woodward the police POC said there was no more than 300 metres of climbing per lap spread out over the whole course with no need ever to snatch granny. Well maybe once or twice at the 12 hour mark just to ride around the oval at the finish line for a slow victory lap. As if. I'll be happy just to finish 12 hours.

Come on everyone this is a great cause and a great place of the world come up to for a weekend of fun. Have a go and make a kid with cancer a little bit happier.

Noosa Triple 000 12 Hour

I've just registered a team of 3 for this fantastic sounding event. I did the Noosa Enduro for the first time last year (well, my first ever event actually - just the 50km intermediate) and it was the most awesome thing I;ve ever done on 2 wheels! The Triple 000 Challenge 12 hr is in the same area of Pomona - some great trails and single track. I'm looking forward to being able to have a bit of a "sprint" for a lap and then a rest while one of my teamates has a crack, rather than a straight 4 hour slog! This is for an excellent cause and in any case, I reckon $60 is a bargain.
