Noosa Triple 000 12 Hour

Excuse me, Hans. Just thought of a question:

The website for the event contains this phrase: "The event will be based from Pomona State School, which is located about 150 metres from the trail head."

Does this imply the track doesn't pass the campsite? I know the event seems laid back and far more about fundraising than uber-serious racing but it's always nice to be trackside as a solo is all. Will this be possible or will we need to be self-sufficient for the full 12h to ride without stopping or returning back to camp 150m down the road? Thanks.

Whippet Boy (sorry its been one long day) for your info the forest trail starts a short distance from the school but the official race track loops back through the oval each lap across the transition area and electronic timing mats and then back out again down station street a short distance on a dirt road before your reenter the forest. The camping and spectator areas are so close the action that if they were any closer the riders would be going through the tents. The track and spectator and sponsor displays and the Cognition mechanics areas have been set up so everyone is always in the action of the transition area. Cheers see you there

is there a feed zone for solo riders close to the track? Not that iit will make me any quicker after not riding on the dirt since 2008 but just for ease of access.

There's an amazing bakery across the rail lines heading out of town. That will be my feed zone Peace Dudes. Can't wait.

Wet, Muddy and absolutely awesome!!! Great event for me, will be back next year.

Anyone know where I can find the results, or are they not posted yet. There was also talk about a CD of photos being sold, anyone know anything about this?

Cheers and well done to all competitors and organisers!

Yep. Pretty terrible weather, but still a fun day. Haven't ridden in those sort of conditions before, as I try to not trash my drivetrain where possible Tounge out

Pity it wasn't on today. It was perfect!

The bike seemed to handle the conditions well. No noticeable wear on the pads (the mud acted as brakes most of the time!), and the moving parts look good at a glance. Haven't had a real close look yet. Will leave that until tomorrow when I give it a good clean and lube.

It was a really nice casual atmosphere. Will be back next year I'm sure Smile

Yes, an awesome day, I love the mud! The photo cd will be available on the working wonders website here http://www.workingwonders.com.au/icalrepeat.detail/2010/02/16/36/55/yzazzjm5m2fhmzg1oge2nje2njk2ntg2ogqzzgqym2i=

I have not seen results yet. See you next year for sure. Thanks to all the volunteers, organisers and well done to the guys at Cognition for keeping my bike going.

Jeez that was one insane event, I had a blast!

I got a tip-off from Whippetboy to bring my mud tyres and boy am I glad I did! Muddy as hell! Having to hose off the drivetrain and brakes and relube the chain after every lap only added to the adventure. Unfortunately all 3 of the people in my team had total brake pad failure after just 3-4 laps each, so we had to call it a day at 4pm, as we had no spare pads.

Overall though, I had a great time and will certainly do it again (on the cheap bike next time, with spare brake pads).

Not looking forward to cleaning the bike (it's still in the shed waiting to be properly cleaned) and finding out how expensive the replacement parts are gonna be! Sad

You didn't miss too much then, as they called the race off at 5pm, due to the conditions being too dangerous to ride at night. Was bittersweet as I was exhausted, but really wanted to do a lap in the dark with my new lights.

Maybe we need to start a new thread for a bulk order of parts to CRC?

Thanks to Whippetboy also for the heads up on conditions. My 1.85 mud tyres never got close to clogging and I'm so glad I threw together my hardtail with a load of old spare parts from the cupboard - amazingly the gears kept working and I only wore out my back pads on the last lap.

Thanks to Trev from Carver bikes also. I did 3 laps on the KillerB and it was a good fit and a nice ride - nice to have some suspension too as my forks seized on the first lap and I rode rigid for the rest of the race - not that it was very rough. Only one thing about the Carver bike that didn't suit the conditions - skinny Ti frame and fat front tyre means your get a lot of mud in the face - Clint my partner was almost blind I think. Didn't have the same problem with my fat carbon frame and skinny mud tyres. Also need to thank the cycle shop guys there. Jeremy from Venture Cycles cleaned up our bikes and Cognition fixed a broken spoke and trued my wheel for $2. My wife bought them some cakes to to say thanks.

I was pretty glad they chopped it down to 9 hours as I had changed cycle kit 3 times and was struggling to avoid chaffing plus i was pretty knackered and was starting to imagine myself lying in a big mud puddle in the dark!

Also meant we were able to drive back down to Brisbane and get to bed at a decent time, after getting a feed at Mannies - pretty good pizza.

Slept well this weekend and didn't touch the bike apart from from some maintenance on Sunday.

Looking forward to a dry race at DelXC this Sunday!

Noosa Triple 000 12 Hour

JumpyOn behalf of myself and the other organisers of the Noosa Triple 000 Challenge we would like to thank everyone who came along and participated in this event to raise money for the Royal Children’s Hospital Kid’s Cancer Ward. It was muddy and it was hard but from the event photos and everyone having a smile on their dial it is evident that a good time was had by all regardless of the conditions.

To the winners of the categories, well done and hope you enjoy your winnings. To everyone else I hope you were one of the winners of the over 70 various spot and other random draws that took place throughout the day. With these prizes valued from $30 to over $150 it is hoped that it made up for all the hard work and cleaning of bodies, bikes and gear just getting out and competing in this race entailed. My washing machine will never be the same.

A big thank you goes out to all of our sponsors, who without this event would not have happened (see www.workingwonders.com.au for the full list and please support them if you can). A special thanks though for out major sponsor Cognition bikes at Tewantin who not only supplied 32 $25 gift vouchers to make up part of the prize for the first placing in each category (solo or teams), they also provided a team of 4 mechanics who worked tirelessly for the entire race. Without them the race would have been over after the first lap if the numbers of riders lining up to have brake pads and other running gear replaced was any indication. All for cost of parts alone no labour at all.

We would also like to thank the Pomona State School and P&C who provided the use of the school as a race base and camping area as well as all the food for the event. The SES also worked hard throughout the day in trying conditions making sure riders were safe by providing traffic control and all the course marshals.

If you would like to order a Champion System event jersey these can still be arranged through our jersey coordinator by emailing Cuthbert.Brad@police.qld.gov.au. The cost is $80 with part of the proceeds going to the charity.

The event photos (all 250 plus of them) and a video of the start will be placed onto a disk by the Sunshine Coast Police District Photographics Section. The disc will be made available through the Working Wonders website for an expected nominal fee of $10 plus P&H. An email will go out to all registered competitors when this is ready and I will make a forum entry as well.

We will be back again next year bigger and better with more prizes and also hopefully with some kids races and teams events for the older kids once we get some insurance issues with having kids on the course sorted.

Thanks again to everyone (next year hopefully the police can beat the firies)Look Out! Its the Cops

Trigger.

Great event trigger. Well run and good fun. I was wondering whether or not I should be concerned about potential felons out there when police used all their crime scene tape to mark the course - lol.

It was a pitty the rain put such a mechanical dint in most people's rides though, but I think this just added to the charm of the day. Survival of the .... ah well no-one reallySmile

Will there be any results posted for this event??? Hope the RCH kid's cancer ward benefited from everyone's contributions. Cheers, Russ.

Noosa Triple 000 12 Hour

Just taking a long shot. At the Noosa 000 12 hr the other weekend, we shared our large purple shelter with several people in need of a place to store their gear. I went to go for a ride today, and realised I was missing my very muddy Sidi Shoes... which I believe were in a plastic coles bag and may have been accidently picked up by one of the people sharing our shelter. They are a basic model with just velcro straps (no ratchet system) size 45. Please PM me if anyone has them. They are my most comfortable riding shoes.

Cheers
Murray
