Gap Creek Trail Care

Two years Dingo Trail was designed as a sustainable reroute of the steep descent from The Gap. While trail care groups have worked elsewhere, we have never spent time on Dingo.

Today, a hardy group of GCTA volunteers did some heavy lifting completed some amazing work on the top section of Dingo. We improved numerous drainage points, built rock armour around the big tree that leads to one of the rock gardens and we added rock armour to the other rock garden.

Gap Creek Trail Care

A band of week-day trail care volunteers have just completed some more amazing work on Dingo.

Be aware that a section of trail above the switch back is no longer straight. Three grade reversals have been re-instated. These were in the original design but riders had straightened the line.

So ride up and have a look at the facelift on Dingo. Then turn around and sample our handiwork. There's a log rollover, rock armouring and banked turns.

Thanks to Hywell, JT, Andy, Mark and Tony. Another great team. Thanks to Steve from BCC for supporting us.

Gap Creek Trail Care

We started 2010 strongly with three trail care sessions in a row. It was great to attack some issues at the top of Rocket Frog and then go over to Dingo for the very first time.

There's more to do on Dingo but Steve and I have decided to mix up our locations so we have variety in our work.

So the next session we're going back to the sustainable re-route of a section of Rocket Frog that's too close to the creek. We've constructed the hardest part through 2009 so the next few sessions will be easier.

Date: Saturday 13th March

Meet: At the shipping container on the reserve at Gap Creek Road.

Time: 7am to 11am

Work site: re-route of a short section Rocket Frog

++++++++++++

Gap Creek Trails Alliance has a reputation as a voice for sustainable mountain biking. I've been the face of GCTA since 2001, regularly attending meetings with State and local government and peak outdoor recreation bodies.

You can add to the strength of GCTA by joining. Membership is free. All you have to do is email me and I'll send you a Word file to complete and return.

Your support makes a difference.

Happy trails, Gillian

Gap Creek Trail Care

This Saturday 8th May we're still meeting at the early time of 7am on Gap Creek Road reserve, at the shipping container. Next month and through winter, there'll be a 7:30am start.

We're all geared up to finish the re-route of Rocket Frog that we've been working on. The IMBA workshop completed one rock culvert and we have to finish another. Then the ends can be joined up with the old track.

Please come and lend a hand. The aim is to create well-designed trail instead of the old, poorly sited stuff.

The benefits to you include learning about IMBA trail design and construction techniques. Then for many years to come you get to ride sustainable trail as well.

The future of MTB riding is in your hands.

See you on Saturday at the next Trail Care session 7am to 11am.

Gap Creek Trail Care

Well, the latest re-route of Rocket Frog is open. As you go up Rocket Frog you need to turn up Dingo to see where the 'end' of the re-route is. Otherwise as you come down, you'll see the new entrance.

Many thanks to Phoenix Adventure (off-road triathlon) crew: Andy and Miriam, Mark and Susan who added to our usual crew of Donald, Tony, Andy with Paul and Schuey from BCC.

It's a great feeling to complete a section after so many months of effort by so many. There's three rock and pipe culverts and a rock causeway. There's also a small log ride beside the trail for beginners.

Remember to be courteous to all others as Gap Creek can be a busy place on the weekend. We need to be mindful of others and pass with care.
