Noosa Enduro not in 2010 - back in 2011

I reckon not finding a sponsor is a load of bull***. I mean yeah ok no major sponsor THIS year. No company can afford it bla bla bla. But, USM is a business, they take our money for insurance, banannas and jelly beans, and a few banners. Of course a few other minor things which I'm sure at $70ish dollars each and 1000ish competitors they'd break even at least. So USM don't make a big profit out of this year. Nobody's making a lot of money this year. But it doesn't mean you just cancel and let everyone down. It's like BP saying sorry no diesel for you guys cause we're not making a big enough profit. Or Qantas cancelling flights cause oh hang on they did that... My point is some years you make a lot other years you scrape through. You don't just give up on your customers.

I reckon this comment shows that you don't know a great deal about running events. I looked around at last year's Noosa Enduro and thought "there's no way USM are making money out of this". Jaytee's right, last year was somewhere between 700-800 paying customers.

You're under-estimating (to a massive degree) the staff costs involved in running an event, for months leading up to it. What you see on the day isn't anywhere near the whole story.

Without a naming rights sponsor, I can absolutely understand USM pulling the pin on this event. I hope it comes back in 2011 cos its an event I enjoyed.

Yumsey - maths

Income entry fees $62k + sponsors minimal

Costs - Police + Traffic control +Ambulances + medical staff + infrastructure tents barriers etc + marketing promotion +fees / permits + 120 marshals + insurance + staff + rent + computers etc etc to name a few.

Let’s just say the event has made a considerable loss the past few years. There is a fantastic passion for this event by both competitor and managers alike. 2011 Winter Festival will bring some economy of scale and create an amazing weekend bringing together 4 different disciplines. Stay tuned.

Don't forget the cost of T-shirts- if you don't include them in the 'goodies bag' you'll have people up in arms that they've paid $70+ dollars to ride their bike and they didn't even get a t-shirt!

Hey Yumsy,

why don't you go and ride the course yourself with some mates, put some money towards some trophies to give each other and you are well ahead

. Trophy

Well I'd need a sponsor to give myself a trophy. Or else I'd have to raise my entry cost. And free t-shirt last year? I didn't get one in my showbag. I thought you had to order them?

Good point about the other leadup andrewbq. Bill's schooled me on the costs. yeah it was a very seat of pants calc. But I still don't agree with them pulling the pin on their clients. If you look through their events altogether, some make money some break even but that's the balance between business and a service. Knocking off the enduro is still dissappointing.

Noooooooo! I was really looking forward to this event! It was going to be my first one! Now I'll have to concentrate on the Dirt fest instead! Only problem is, I'm not sure if I could do a 50km now! ( I now its a month away, but with all this rain, I'm not getting enough rides in!!!)

I've done a couple of 30km rides but no 50.! Am I too ambitious to atempt one so soon?

Real bummer it's not on - hope it comes back.

I was really impressed with how well organized and run this event was in the past! I would agree it must have cost a fair bit, as a rider I could definitely see the value in it - very very well organized and supported. I liked the format and liked the trails. The people that did this event in the past should give themselves a big pat on the back - hope it all comes together again next year.

If I was a major sponsor this would be the event I would put my money against.

There've been some other events that I've done that have looked down right pathetic in terms of support and organization compared to the Noosa Enduro and that didn't do their Sponsors any favours!!

well thats a shame!

I would love to see this even back, but don't think that the Winter Festival is the right time. The clash with the Noosa Century alone is a turn off for me. Although i like to think i'm tough, i dont think i could back up a 100km Noosa Enduro with a 160km Noosa Century on the same weekend!

sounds like a great reason to get a Crosser. You get to do both on one day hmm.

Provided the backing is there from the riders and the industry the event will definatley be back next year. We love playing in the dirt as much as you guys.

The USM website and the workingwonders website still list it as going ahead? You'd think a cancellation would be followed immediately with confirmation on at least one of the websites.....No Hope

Just to clear any confusion folks - the Noosa Triple 000 12hr MTB challenge is a different event although we are fortunate to be associated with USM in both. The triple 000 is definitley on the 17/4/2010 and will be run at the same efficiency as the Enduro and in the same area so please sign up today and don't miss this capped event.

Not at all! If you are able to do 30km rides now, you should be able to do a 50km no worries. The first time I did the Noosa I had never ridden more than 30km, and although it was a challenge, it certainly was doable, and I felt great about it afterwards.

Thanks Zadam, that's good to know!!!! I've entered into the 50km xc solo on the weekend, so no turning back now!!!

What's the terrain like? They say its classed as "easy" on the website. So if there's anybody out there that has done the Dirt fest (Brisbane) before, I would love to hear from you! Any tips would be be welcome!!!

I've done my "training" ( if you can call it that) mostly on the Noosa trails (Pomona-cooroy, trail 7) and a few rides in the Mapleton forrest and Glasshouse Mountains. Hopefully that will be enough preparation? No damn idea.

Anyway, I'm very excited about the whole event and can't wait to give it a go!!!! Hope to see and meet some of you there!!

Crazychick, if you can ride 30km of the Noosa 'Hard' 50km course you are well placed to do an easy 50km. The Noosa hard 50km is the hardest 50km I have done at race pace in 2.5 years of MTBing.
