Sunday morning suffer fest

pacesochardmtbdirtpacesochardmtbdirtpacesochard

We will be starting a regular ride leaving the Baseball field carpark (End of the Jinker Track) most Sundays depending on interest/ response.

The route will vary & increase weekly starting at around the 40km mark & eventually reaching approx 80/ 90km. Start times will be early as rides will always be 4+hrs long. Rider input is welcome in the areas of ride destinations, distance, & training up for events ie:- (100km Epic in September).

We will ride in any weather (yes rain, cold & wind) but could shorten or change the ride route somewhat depending on conditions.

Riders will only need to follow a few general guide lines.

1-Your bike must be in good condition & up to the task

2-It is recommended you bring enough food & water to sufficiently cover the ride ie:- don't turn up with a banana & a bottle of water for an 80km Mt Nebo ride.

3-The ride speed will be steady with breaks as short as practical. Making the distance is the aim. If you are a fast rider you are most welcome to ride the hills 3 times. Rider ability should be above average but, most tracks will be long fire trails. More difficult rides will come with a warning. These rides are for endurance training at a steady social pace.

(If anyone is interested we will regularly ROAD ride or race most Saturday mornings. Rides varyfrom 50 to 120km with the Samford Velos or HPRW who hold criteriums every Saturday morning, currently at the Nundah crit track.)

Link below to Samford Velos ride schedule.

You know I'll be there. I have a couple of weeks of "other commitments" but after that I have some new goals that this will suit.

All ride routes are open to suggestion readit. Most rides will visit the Mt Nebo Cafe or a little later the Mt Glorious Cafe. We could do a straight to the bakery compulsory BIG breakfast pig out followed by the roughest trails we could find throwup

Best way to enjoy it twice, then be hungry enough to eat again!

For those smiting after recent major mud induced weather damage, what is this trail expected to be with any further rain - or could someone look into their crystal ball saturday night? eg is it gravel/sandy and drains well or slippery drive-train eating mud.

One of the best things about Bunya and indeed the Nebo run is that it handles water well. There was a bit of water around last week and we even rode through some showers but in all you should be fine. A couple of the water crossings were full and so you will get your feet wet but hey, thats mountain biking for ya! The top of South Boundary was the only place we saw any real mud and it wasn't enough to even mention. Should be a good run.

Well let's pray for a little sunshine in any case - unless I get carried away tomorrow and ride forever, I shall see you there.

The Bunya ring road (fence line) is all good draining gravel. Then into IronBark is the same being very high ground so to speak. Mclean Rd is bitumen which tends to stay fairly firm & blackish in colour although there can be the occasional puddle to watch out for. The trails into Bellbird are similar to IronBark, then the creek track is where it gets interesting. Last week there were 3 creek crossings with one being knee deep, but it's probably dropped down by now. This track is always littered with branches, fallen trees & rocks. It would have to be one of the most picturesque trails you will ever ride being under a canopy of trees beside a running creek.

The baseball carpark is literally on the corner of Bunya Road and The Jinker Track. The Jinker Track is a gazetted road.

Hope that helps.

I can't wait to get on one of your rides again Zep. But alas, I have to be at work just after 9.00 for the next few weeks. So it will be a quick run from I/bark up to the South Boundary shelter for me. Hope you guys have a good one!

readit just in case there is any doubt we ride in any & all conditions. So on your bike Situps It will not fall apart from mud, rain or cold weather.

Big thanks to Zep for being an absolute gentleman as a ride leader and more than happy to accomodate everyone.

Nice to meet a big new group of you Bunyaps. Will definitely be up that way again.

Now to try convince myself that I do not need a Niner like Zep's or Squirrel's!
