Good news I met with the Moreton Bay Regional Council Sport and Rec Planning Manager this morning to review and discuss the two potential sites that they have identified as being possible locations for a cycling precinct. One site is in Narangba Valley and the other is over in Albany Creek near the sports fields off the Jinker Track, Bunyaville.
The Narangba site is the old Narangba quarry, and they have actually drafted a master plan for what they have named the 'Narangba Valley Cycle Park'. I was blown away when I saw it as it is the actual concept of a cycling precinct on paper and what they are proposing is great. I have a copy of the draft plan, however at this point in time I cannot put it in the public domain. The beauty about this site is that it is available for this type of project.
The other site at Bunyaville is something that is long term and a little further down the track as far as availability, and there are a number of other factors to be dealt with. However, it is very likely that if this goes ahead that there is a possibility that two sites may eventually be established due to the increasing demand for facilities and the growth of the population in both areas.
I also reviewed a letter of recommendation that Geoff from CQ provided to council. It was a glowing recommendation and fitted in perfectly with the concept (thanks CQ). Council have also received formal notices of support from MTBA, and thanks to 'X' there is great support from North Brisbane MTB club (aka Dirt Dogs), and also BQ are on board. I want to reiterate that this is not purely a Dutton's thing but a community project which the club is an active part of, but also it is something for SEQ (as I have mentioned before and CQ have recognised this will be a first for Qld), so the more clubs and people that get behind this and can see an opportunity to use such a facility should raise their hand. Club representatives can contact Carly Jeavons at MBRC via Carly.Jeavons@moretonbay.qld.gov.au
If this does get up, I have recommended that a steering committee be formed which includes the engagement stakeholders in such a project to assist in the planning process to ensure that we cover all the various groups needs.
The petition will have to be closed Friday week (13/
and prepared for submission to the CEO of MBRC the following week. This will trigger the next phase in the process, which will be the Sport and Rec response being the submission of a full report with the draft master plan etc supporting the initial concept. Based on the research, support and facts and figures there is a very good case and we are quietly confident that this will go to a planning stage.
The link to report the concept study report is via http://www.duttoncycles.org.au and the facebook group is at www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=119145301449891 If you support the concept please sign an on-line petition by visiting http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/crittrack/ (due to the petition being an online app it asks for a donation after you sign it, just close it and the signature is added)
