After 1 lap...

I started with an all black bike, white bottle, white number plate.

How come your tyres are so clean then?

Ok, you got me. Secretly I was too scared to ride in the mud so just painted my bike with it. I ran out of time to do the tyres before having to take photos.

I think I just happened to ride through a few puddles in the car park when I went for a snack and took the photo.

They look like Kenda small block 8's. I bet they were squrimy in the mud!

Yes they are Small Block8's. I haven't had them long but am loving them paired with latex tubes at lower pressures than I used to run. I found them predictable, but had to go into a few corners with some caution. Though, I've never ridden in conditions quite that bad before so probably would of eased back even with a different tyre and now reflecting on the race I've got nothing to compare the Block8's to in muddy conditions.

From the opinion of those there on race day, would a chunkier tyre actually have helped much??

I didn't have any problems with the small tread clogging up (except for 1 short section coming up out of that "rainforest creek" area which I didn't see anyone clear after the first lap). The track was just sloppy in general.

I did considered running something a bit chunkier before the race but stuck with the 8's when someone (Kenzo!!!!) said the track held up alright in the wet.

I used Continental Explorers front and back having always used Maxxis Ignitors in the mud. The Continentals seemed just as good if not better. The only place they lost traction was on the pinch climb which was followed by the really boggy wide section in the last 1/3 of the lap in the later stages of the race. They cleared themselves of mud really quickly. Will use them in the mud again.

Looks like hackers are back at it. Anti-virus stopped access.

Is it safe yet to enter the water?

+1 Conti Explorers...I used one on the front with a Monorail on the back. I rate the Explorers...as Andy says they clear well and have good side knobs...cheap too...

Yes, some people have spent a good deal of time upgrading and site is OK at the moment. Lap times are listed as well. Not a day for fast times but was fantastic to see so many smiles and a lot of muddy people having great fun! Outdoorgaz did a great job with his lens.

Also great to see "The Stug" take the overall solo win on his single speed. Some say he has a Evo Makinen in has garage to use for motor pacing....all we know is he is called The Stug. Pure awesomeness bud...
