We got an iPad from work to play with for a coupla days and OMG, what a disapointment.

Posting here is difficult, browsing You Tube is a breeze, googling stuff and flufing about is good, gaming is great but as an internet acessing unit to brows during the adds, for me its a big thumbsdown .

I'm really disappointed as we were really keen to get one for Christmas but on the up side I got a Gorilla to spend on my bike instead. 09allgood

Whadya reckon?

I have been using one almost exclusively for about 2 weeks for work and play and find it has some great + and a few - . The biggest bummer is the stupid virtual keyboard. There is no backspace, no tab key, caps lock is only half a lock, and having to flip between the alpha, numeric and symbols keypads is a real pain. Why apple couldnt just use a normal keyboard beats me,as there is plenty of room. The + are the size, internet speed, startup time from pressing the on button, and the neat way the library is set out and accessed. The battery life is fantastic as well. I get about 10hrs of almost constant use on 1 charge. Unfortunately, (or maybe fortunately) for the rest of the world, i have become a bit of an ipad junkie.

they want to get one at work, I am resisting it (as the IT systems manager, which is not my primary role). what I have heard, "Apple iPad - a solution to a problem that never existed", best marketing machine since sliced bread came on the market.

Believe me. In my line of work, a problem existed, and this comes close to fixing it. Not quite there yet but i live in hope.

If its anything like the Iphone I think you will get used to it with some time. Ive used an ipad a couple of times and given that I have an iphone, I found it to be pretty easy, because the keyboard setup is the same. Once you get used to it you can knock out 35 words a minute without to much effort.

Netbook with OSX or Linus using standby instead of booting each time? Half the price twice the func.

(I'm partially stirring, but am interested in real world justifications, cause I haven't heard any yet.)

Love my iPhone to bits though.

iPad

we have two computers, a laptop, two iphones and a netbook and i got given an ipad through work. it is always being used but is more of a novelty. being a designer i need certain programs which it won't be able to run for a while and other than using it as a drawing tablet it's not ready. worth keepin gup to date with the apps though.

Same. As a designer, I have 3 computers here in the studio, 2 at home, iphone, macbook pro, pc laptop etc.. an ipad would just be a toy at best. For the price, theres better options.

I love everything about Apple and their products but if you don't have a need, you don't have a need, no Ipad for me

I'm with Clewsy and Ky. I use an iMac at home and have an iPhone on the go. There isn't really a gap between them that needs filling.

I have a $500 voucher to spend at Myer and I thought I might as well grab a cheap iPad. But I went in and had a play again and still couldn't see when or where I'd use it given what i already have.

I'm putting the $500 towards a Bose iPod/iPhone dock instead.

I'm not happy with Apple, so I would never get another phone or anything other than an ipod again.

I updated my 32gb 3gs iphone with the 4.0 wirmware when it came out - the new software doesn't allow you to send emails (WTF) and than when I went to charge my phone "This device can not be charged/supported" or something came up.

Sent it away for warrenty, only to hear a few weeks later it was "water damage". Which I believe is a load of C**P. I've kept it covered since new and it only happened after I updated the software. Store sent it away for insurance and they are going to charge $100-$250 to fix it. It's been nearly two months and I still don't have my phone.

I guess it all comes down to need V's want. I don't NEED the iPad but I would not give it back.

I use it at home as a bit of a nerve centre for my home entertainment stuff and also watch TV or movies on it. I use it so much that I am trying to find a nice wall mount for it but as yet nothing seems to have been developed.

At work I use it to take notes in meetings and generally store "to do" lists. Sure I could do all this with a laptop but it is just so much easier to use the iPad.

I have just discovered the joys of ebooks as well. This keeps me sane on the bus trip to work...I have actually tried the ebooks on the iPhone, iPod and iPad and the iPad is streets ahead. I know I could get a kindle for less but then the kindle doesn't do all the other stuff as well.

Thing is, I haven't used my iPod Touch since I got the iPad though. In all honesty the iPad is just a big version of of a Touch (at least the WiFi only one is) so I guess that would mean I agree. You don't need both - but for what I use it for, it is much better than the Touch.

iPad

Hey gringo, I saw a neat little video that someone had made extolling the uses of an ipad, and it showed extensive use of velcro wherever the ipad was required to be hung or used. Do a search on vimeo using velcro and ipad.
