Computer set up advice

Wondering how others have set up their sensor - I feel this set up as shown has real potential to be hit by foliage and force the sensor into the spokes - I'm sure I have seen set ups where the sensor is set on the reverse or the back of the fork leg - Has any one had experience with this ? Open to suggestion

It's a wireless sensor...? If so, there is no reason why you would have any difficulty placing it on the back of your fork leg - upside down.... which really is the same arrangement if it was on the right fork leg and on the front.

This said, yes there is a potential for the sensor to be pushed into the spokes... but the rotation of the spokes is likely to push it back out again.

If you place the sensor at the back of the fork leg, the rotation of the spokes pulls the sensor in.

Kenzo - Yes it's wireless - Not sure if I did the right thing going wireless I'm wondering about its accuracy. I'll try the reverse of the leg. I wonder how powerful the sensor is and what sort of range it works in - Does the action of the fork disrupt the connection ? No information came with the computer and looking up the net proved futile.

I'm running a similar setup, with the sensor out the front. Had it like that for a couple of year now and so far no dramas with it being pushed into the spokes. The connection can be a bit flakey sometimes though, I think it there is a cable between the computer and the sensor it can block the signal, mine didnt work at all for weeks and it was only when i moved it slightly that it started working again, so my theory is there must have been a cable in the direct line of sight between the computer and sensor.

One of the reasons I bought this model is because it had a mount to fit squarely on the handle bar mount - leaving room either side of the actual handle bar for light mounts - The direct line of site is none existent with this set up - I have searched the relevant sites to try and get the manufactures view on how it should be set up with no luck. frustration

Do an experiment. Take the computer off the handlebar mount, hold it down near the sensor (slightly above the sensor, in the direction the signal would be going if it was going up to your bar mount, only much closer). Lift the front wheel and spin is around quickly, and see if the computer gets the signal or not.

Hey Adfor, I had issues with my cateye wireless occasionally. Are you getting higher k's than you expected? or lower? Lower is a weak signal and higher is weird sh*t going on.

Have you tried new batteries?

On the Cateye there is a top and bottom to the fork sensor and it must up the correct way to be pointing toward the computer. My computer is also mounted like you have in the centre of the stem but works well now that I have set it up correct. Make sure that the magnet is close enough as it passes the sensor. Another thing to watch out for is when you park your bike that the magnet is not directly next to the sensor. I was told that this will flat the battery real quick.

Leave the sender on the front of the fork, as mentioned having it on the back is nasty if it slips forward on the zip ties.

On that subject though, I run a few wraps on electrical tape around my sender and fork.

Make certain that the magnet lines up with the sensor mark on the sender, I see it so often where the magnet is not lined up correctly.

I have the exact same model, mounted exactly the same. I have had no dramas with it and even had the computer in my backpack when riding to work with the exact same distance readin g compared to when it is on the bike. I wrapped some electrical tape around the fork before I mounted the sender so there is less chance of it turning. Also, are your cable ties running under your cables, silly question, but can't be ruled out.
