People,

I'm starting to come around to the idea of 2x10 (as opposed to my current setup of 3x10).

I've been looking at the spread of gear ratios you end up with. Going to a 26-36 from my current setup (22-32-44 with 11-36 cassette) effectively means I only loose the equivalent of one ratio at the top and bottom of the spread (lowest gear on the 2x10 would be the same as small chainring + 2nd largest rear cog on 3x10 setup) and similar at the high end of the gears. But can you cleanly use the full 10 rear cogs on BOTH chainrings?

At the moment I avoid using the full rear cog range in the middle chainring because of the bad chain angle that results. And I definitely don't go past halfway through the cassette on the small or large chainring.

Are people using the full cassette range on both chainrings on a 2x10 setup with no problem?

Help me let go of one of my chainrings!

2x10 Chain lines

Yep, not a problem at all. It's one of the benfits of going 2x10, no bad chain lines. I'm running 26/39 with 11-36 cassette, I can use all gears without any problems.

Plus 1. I'm runing 39/27 with 11-36 cassette. No dramas at all. Only gears i'm avoiding are the 39-36 and the 27-11, but occassionally I have caught myself using the 39-36 without any dramas at all.

Avoid trouble, go to the double......

I just changed to 2 X 9 22-36 up front and 11-34 at rear. So far its been perfect can still get up to 60km and still have a lot left and gets up granny as before.

Only difference I found is there is a little overlap i.e. When i got to the 36 I change down one or 2 at the rear. BUT I havent been changing the rear as much as before because Im finding the 36 is great gearing.
