QuoteLaugh Out Loudillon 7kms, Ray you should be ashamed. Leave pass ? Is there someone we should know about ?
Er ashamed yes boohoo I've been meaning to start riding to work, it's rather easy, since it's half downhill on the run in. I'm just a slackass... oops And yes, there is someone. 2thumbsup

7ks isnt worth the hassle.I used to live 8ks from work and never rode directly, I always rode into the city first and turned it into a nice 35k ride. Going home I sometimes wimped out and went home shortest possible way though.

According to the street directory - I'm 4km from the GPO in a straight line. the most direct route to ride is about 7 or 8 kms (the river means I don't have much choice on a more direct route) and my current route is around the 12 kms (sometimes more) as I deviate to get some extra kms under the tyres. I will have to measure it properly one day. The distances are based on me following the route as closely as possible in the car.Doesn't matter what the distance is. It's just a nice way to start and finish your work day. Get's rid of all the stresses of the day before you get home. thumbsup4

Yep, I do a lot of thinking on the ride to and from work, dream up new things to make (I DIY almost everything), and basically ride away the day's problems - just wish I could get the wife to ride to and from work...

If it's about exercise then you're right... but if it's about saving money, the environment, destressing before/after work.. then it is worth it regardless of the distance. 2thumbsup

Are any of you regular (or non regular) commuters interested in getting together for a beer at Southbank one Friday after work - say 4:30 or 5:00pm?Just a thought......We could all ride to an approprite pub and enjoy a beer before riding home. Hic.drinkbeer12cheers2mtbmtbdirt2Of course we would only have one or two so that we remain under the legal limit. I do not condone the consumption of alchohol to a degree that results in blood alchohol levels over the legal limit. thumbsup4Or perhaps we don't ride that day and get plastered instead. danceclaphgetdown

Sounds like a good idea GiantPete. I have sometimes noticed the bike couriers doing this in town too.

Interesting commute home last night - 13 mins to Robina station, 38 min train to Beenleigh, 14 min wait for citytrain, 20 min train to Kuraby and then a 12 min ride from Kuraby to Rochedale to the in-laws for a Sauna and swim + dinner Smile Then drive home with the wife and daughter with the bike in the back.Interesting I timed the run from Robina to Nerang to see if I was in a hurry whether it wuold be worth catching the train - nope! By the time I do the ride to and from each station it ends up being about the same time as if I commute the entire journey.Anyway, I'm off to work on this mighty fine morning ... on my bike of course!

Ahh, what a great ride in today, getting warmer it seems, just a long sleeve shirt and summer jersey needed. I wore some shorts as well. getdownWorkmate was driving for a while behind me today, he reckons I'm the world's most aggressive commuter 2thumbsup I told him it's a jungle out there, if you stop running you get trampled, you gotta do what you gotta do to stay alive... is there an emoticon for too many cliches?

I would agree that you have to ride confidently and make sure drivers have no chance of mis-interpreting your intentions - I do take a whole lane when I need to. One of my staff also happened to be following me this morning and was bemused saying he clocked me at 60km/hr on the hill down to the office Smile

Had to indicate with my arm to a motorist today to get him to stop. I was about 2 metres from a set of S-bend traffic islands, when he started to accellerate to try and squeeze past me and another cyclist. stupidMoron would have taken at least one of us out if I had not have thrown my arm out telling him to wait for us to go through first. Then we ended up passing him twice more anyway as he got stuck in traffic.Young guy in a sports car - young, dumn, and full of cum.
