A true commuter is a person, not a bike.

True (bike) commuters don't really give a darn which bike they use. Sure, there might be a favourite weapon.. but it's the riding which brings the joy.

How did you avoid headwinds yesterday? It felt like it was riding into treacle.

it started at the doctors surgery, a simple visit for an updated referral to the dermatologist turned into blood tests, CT scans (checkup coming in October) etc etc. so even though I had the bike in the car and my cycling gear on, the bike got chauffeured around all day between appointments. drove past where you live about 5 times I think. I gave up on going to work around lunchtime, so I avoided the winds. Smile

I like the shift in wind direction since Winter, I can actually breathe on the Western Freeway now, and my ride times are showing it!

Interesting that it has such a big effect. I bet that guy doing research on pollution and cycle commuting would be interested in that.

Can any one who rides the bike path at the back of Anaconda Everton Park/Alderly that that has just been rebuilt and re-opened today, explain what my tax $$ achieved??? Wow its all new, but it wasn't that bad before. I would rather they added more paths elsewhere. Happy that it has re-opened, no more taking the roadie across the grass. Although, the narrow bridge was fun.

Don't worry Antz, if you live at Clear Mountain, you didn't pay a cent - its BCC rate-payer funded and you'd be in Moreton Bay Regional Council at a guess!

Agree re the narrow bridge - I like a bit of north shore on my commute!

Without getting in to detail, I also pay BCC rates too groan In any case, it is indicative of the way g'ments waste money. Much like the recent roadwork on Eaton's Xing road. A money spend for the sake of spending money. "A making roads Safer Project" my a$$, certainly not safer for cyclists. They widened the road marginally then added armco so that there is less of a shoulder. Sorry, but this one has been bugging me for weeks. I first thought they were finally giving me a real shoulder to ride in, but no Sad

How nice was the weather this morning. Hardly any breeze, so warm it was time for the short sleeve shirt only, lovely.

And set a PB for average speed this morning. Pretty happy with that.

In other news; I had the best ever bus experience today on the way in. You know you get into those situations where you play leap frog with a bus; they pull up to a bus stop, you overtake them, then they overtake you to the next stop, and on it goes.

Well this bus driver today was fantastic! They didn't speed up and then stop in front of me, gave me heaps of room, always checked their mirrors before pulling out, and kept well right when overtaking me. It was a very pleasant experience (compared to some I have had). So much so I have sent a message on the Translink feedback page; I hope the driver gets it, and also has a nice feeling from their efforts.

Great move, I do the same, yes I will complain to Translink about Bus Drivers (will be doing so after yesterdays ride in), I always leave good messages for the nice ones so that they know their driving was appreciated (an appreciative wave also goes a long way I've found too).

I do the same but generally it's positive feedback nowadays. I've had very few incidents with buses where I've felt threatened. They pass it on to the driver is my understanding.

Now I wish I wasn't so stuffed going up into griffith Uni last week when I was passed by two busses into he narrow steep bit. didn't try to get numbers

first one gave me a good sized berth so I battled as he went away and stuck my hand up in a wave, then found another one come past. with MORE room. gave that one a wave too.

I have noticed a difference with BCC council bus drivers over the last 18 months. When I first started commuting into the city the buses were most dangerous part of my ride. Now they are on the most part great - give me space - sit behind me to wait to pull in to a bus stop rather than overtake and cut in. I have no complaints.
