The week before when I was up there with Denis, I thought it wouldn't take much to put Lane back, but now I am not too sure.

Destruction down by the highway seecms to be over, with mulching now happening on the hillside around Easy Up and Dead Dog. What has occurred there so far is relatively easy to repair, but it's hard to know where the mad mulcher will strike next. If clearing continues further uphill along the Lane, it will be a real issue as the track provides an essential link to so much of the trail riding on the hill.

Did you see the lane is gone Denis? After you come over the wooden ramp thing it is all mulched.

I guess all we can do is wait until we're sure the mulching is over and try to rebuild as best we can. I had marked the Lane with FTR bunting and fluoro paint in the hope it might be left alone, but that obviously hasn't worked. Even if we can restore the track, it's not the same running through a cleared area with most of the vegetation gone. My concern now is that he will clear the top section and destroy the timber ramp in the process. Tops of the downhills and Pot Hill could go as well. Time for more tracks on the side of the hill Kruger doesn't own.

Went for a quick ride up at Castle this arvo, bumped into a "Mick" rebuilding a jump down between the bottom two fireroads.

Had bit of a chat, turns out he has been doing some of the mulching & bulldozer work for Kruger, it's pretty much done and we're right to get out there and hook into getting the trails back up and running.....even build new ones if wanted

As it's just been mulched, the existing trails shouldn't be too hard to re establish and it's perfect timing to cut some new trails before the area grows back.

With this in mind, who wants to get out there and get some trails back?

1. "mulching is over', I have heard that so many times sounds a bit like Julia Gillard denying a leadership challenge.

2. But if that is true, I'm sure there is a group willing to help. BUT let's not forget about the other side of the mountain which is not owned by Mr Kruger, shouldn't be bulldozed, but has fantastic and very overgrown tracks just needing a clean up.

Mick Dopson (Doppers) was the guy you met Michael. Think you may have misunderstood - he does know Warren Kruger and has used his equipment for some track building (such as the downhill start ramp), but does not do the bulldozing or mulching. Jed is right about the other side of the hill - lots of track which needs maintenance there and also potential for some new stuff. I've been focusing on the highway side because the mulching, unfortunate as it is, allows construction of a long, fairly flat and non-technical loop there which contrasts with most of the other riding on the hill. Once we can be reasonably sure mulching is finished, it shouldn't take too much effort to restore Chicken Run, Easy Up, Dead Dog and Lane. Lane in particular won't be as good without the thick bush, but it's critical to linking other tracks together. I'm pretty busy helping Rachel up to 24 March, but keen to keep working up there when anyone else is available as I'm having a knee replacement on 29 March which will rule me out of track work for a couple of months.

Ok so got bored in the wet on and off weather and took the whipper snipper and chainsaw out to Castle. Decided to clear the trail that starts straight from the car park (towards the exit). For something different than just riding along the road to the trail head. Anyway trail leads all the way to the crater at bottom on inca. Just another way to enter Castle Hill.

Please note that there is a rather large fallen tree across the trail. My Ebay chainsaw wasn't quite a match. Might either build it into a rollover with fallen logs and rocks or give it another go with the chainsaw on a better day. Feel free to try and do something with it.

Castle still the only place to ride in the wet

How does Saturday morning 10 March suit for some track repair work? I agree with Jed that Lane has to be a priority provided we are sure Krugs has finished the demolition work. Doppers can probably check if that is the case. Some brushcuttingand a bit of Roundup will also be a quick fix for some of the other tracks which are getting a bit overgrown after all the rain. The gully at the end of Director's, where it joins the Pot Hill track, is so overgrown you can hardly see where the track goes.

Couldn't find the entrance to the track (not sure what its called) that starts just before Lane finishes. Denis the xc track is fantastic, well done. Hopefully I'll be free to help on the 10th March.

Yep, I'm keen for 10th March.

I think I'm going to have to create a map out of GPX logs and get some of you more knowledgable Castle Hill riders to put some names to some trails so I actually have a visual idea as to what trails you're talking about.

I only just found the trail with the old see saw and some timber work a bit further along for the first time last time I was out there.
